The Badbitcoin Project: Exposing bitcoin and cryptocurrency frauds since Feb 2014

Where there is money, there are gangsters. Bitcoin is money, so if you’re dealing with it, you need to keep your eyes wide open. Started at begin of 2014, The Badbitcoin Project is made up of a loose group of IT Professionals, Bitcoin Enthusiasts, Investigators and Finance Experts with the aim of protecting new and existing bitcoin users, and of clearing a path through the fake sites, so the good actors can thrive.

We want to see Bitcoin & The Blockchain become a successful evolution in the way we trade, bank and exchange contracts, and so we aren’t going to let a load of scammers and cheap thieves endanger this movement. Bitcoin, simply put, is a store of value, however, the blockchain it is carried on changes everything. – The Badbitcoin Project

This site a precious resource, free to use and updated 24/7, and it is the first place where you should look before even thinking of investing your bitcoins. It can be really easy to misunderstand the bitcoin environment when it’s all new to you, and it will take you some time to grasp some of the rules, concepts, and limitations. This leaves you vulnerable to the swathes of scams and ponzis that try to lure you into their promises of easy money, and doubling or even 100 times multiplying your virtual currency.

After two years and half of activity, their list of bad guys exceeded 2,000 sites.

When we started this project, we didn’t expect that it would still be needed years later, but the interest in bitcoin is driving every web fraudster to try their hand after bitcoin. The bitcoin Industry on the whole is clean, these fraudsters generally do not come from the inside, but often from the world of fiat, and a great many from developing countries and Eastern Europe. – The Badbitcoin Project

When you see something that is too good to be true, you may want to give your contribute in keeping the bitcoin environment clean by reporting to them the suspect site; They’ll do the rest.

Their pages also contains analysis, schemes and definitions of the most common scams, cons, ponzi’s bad sites, and how to spot them. If you’re still new to the cryptocurrencies world, this is something you better study today, because it can save your ass tomorrow.
